Kelis Makes Peace With Nas, "There Is No Point To Fighting"
R&B singer Kelis recently spoke on her divorce from rapper Nas and said they are currently on speaking terms.
Kelis also said her recent pregnancy helped inspire a new album, Flesh Tones.
"Yeah everything's fine. We are divorced, but there is no point to fighting -- there is nothing to fight about," she revealed in an interview with US Weekly. "I am super happy; my life is awesome. We are friends, we get along now and it's all good...[Our son Knight] is hilarious! He claps, he snaps and he waves. He is a shrunken little person and has a lot of personality...Pregnancy gives a woman a strong sense of validation. [When you're pregnant], you wake up everyday and internally everything is working perfectly and you look at the world and everything sort of fits together. It's hard not to realize there is a creator and he created all of us."
Nas was recently forced to pay over $15,000 a month for Kelis' home mortgage.
TMZ obtained legal docs in which Nas concedes he owes Kelis a skosh less than $300,000 in spousal support. But it seems the most pressing problem is the mortgage for the home Kelis is living in -- Nas is behind $52,989.22. So Nas' lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, filed a payment plan with the court, in which the rapper agrees to pay $17,500 up front, and then pretty much double the $7,800 mortgage payment each month to catch up. It's pretty amazing -- Kelis' lawyer, disso queen Laura Wasser, has claimed Nas raked in $244,826 a month.
Nas and Kelis officially parted ways last month after being married nearly five years.
Power couple Nas and Kelis announced that they were calling it quicks back in April 2009 despite being pregnant with their first son together. Since then they have gone through a nasty legal battle over child support and child custody. Finally, a little over a year later, the marriage has officially come to a close. According to TMZ, the divorce has become official, however the issues of child custody and support still remain. Right now Nas has to pay around $10,000 a month, which is a fee that he claims is too much for him. How long can they possibly draw this thing out?
Recently, Kelis denied reports of of reconciliation with Nas.
"It wasn't really a bitter divorce," Kelis told controversial blogger Perez Hilton in an interview. "Sometimes [we're on friendly terms.] [laughs] No, [we didn't reconcile], not reconcile in the sense like we're back together. But I mean, you know, we had about eight years. Yeah, I am [seeing someone]. [It's been going on] for a little while. It's going great. He's not [a musician.] [Famous?] I guess it depends on who you ask. [laughs]"
