Officials say the fire responsible for delaying Lil Wayne's jail sentencing this week was caused by an electrical accident.
According to reports, some court proceedings were moved to a temporary location.
A fire that shut Manhattan's main criminal courthouse for a second day - delaying a slew of cases, including the sentencing of Lil Wayne - was an electrical accident, officials said Wednesday. Cases from the massive 17-story complex at 100 Centre St. were jammed into the much smaller courthouse across the street, with some arriagnments being shifted to the Midtown Community Court.
A spokesperson for the Office of Court Administration said business would continue to move forward.
"For losing the biggest courthouse in the state, we're doing pretty well," spokesman David Bookstaver said. "We expected it to be a bit messy, but we're still up and running." Lil Wayne will now have through the weekend until he faces Judge Charles H. Solomon.
New York rapper Ja Rule informed Wayne fans via Twitter of yesterday's delayed sentencing.
"Just came from court it got postponed but my nigga weezy still free!!!," he wrote Wednesday morning. "I think I just broke the news lol Yes guys weezy is NOT goin in today!!!"
The rapper was initially expected to be sentenced Tuesday (March 2) afternoon.
Carter was scheduled to be sentenced and jailed on Tuesday afternoon, but the sentencing may be rescheduled Wednesday, according to Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Charles Solomon. The courthouse at 100 Centre Street was closed Tuesday after a fire broke out in the basement around 10:30 a.m. Court employees speculated that the courthouse could also be closed on Wednesday, if not longer.
