Game Not Down With Selling Out, "I Don't Think I Need To Do All That"
West Coast rapper Game recently talked about the lackluster promotion of his upcoming R.E.D. Album and said he does need to over-sell himself for the fans.
From Game's perspective, he has earned a strong fan following.
The rapper says he believes seniority in music equates with not having to promote upcoming projects, and that's exactly the approach he's taking for the release of his fourth studio album. "I'm not into promoting. I give you a date, and if you're a Game fan, then you'll get the album," the West Coast rapper says matter-of-factly about his upcoming album, "R.E.D.," due July 6 on Interscope Records. "I don't sell myself. This is my fourth album. I don't think I need to do all that...Generally I just wake up in the morning and I live life and I make my decisions as far as music goes based on how I'm feeling that day."
The rapper's new album recently got pushed back from a June to July release date.
The summer release schedule is getting one more shake-up. Game's R.E.D. Album has been moved to July. The rapper's fourth LP has been delayed one week to July 6 from its previous June 29 date. Other releases that week include Kelis' Flesh Tone and Big Boi's Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty.
Game previously talked about competing on June 15th with Drake's debut album.
"Nah man, it's just a package deal, you should go and support hip-hop, go get Thank Me Later and go grab R.E.D. and you good," Game said in an interview. "You know you're good, then the next week you come back and buy Eminem, great. June is gonna be a big month. So no, it's no competition. Everything don't gotta be a competition and we're not even the same type of [artist,] we're not in the same lane. I respect what he does and I talked to him before, he's a fan of mine so we'll just keep it like that and put it out, people will go and buy them and who cares who's number one, number two, it don't make no sense to me because I've been around and sold millions of records already. I have nothing else to prove."
Game recently released a statement discussing the project being co-produced.
It has been was announced that Pharrell will be co-executive producing the album, along with Game. Previously, the Star Trak founder did this with albums from Snoop Dogg and Slim Thug. Additionally, Game released a statement, "[Dr.] Dre is a Hip Hop legend and one of the reasons I'm making music. To be working so closely with him again...man, I don't even have words to describe it...my two favorite producers are helping me with the direction of this album, I couldn't be in a better position."
Game's R.E.D. Album is set to drop Tuesday, July 6th.
