Drake Calls Jay-Z's "Light It Up" Collabo Important, "Jay Gave Me A Life Lesson"
Young Money's Drake recently talked about his leaked Jay-Z collaboration, "Light It Up," and said the rap mogul gave him a life lesson.
According to Drake, they were unable to hit the studio together to create the record.
"'Light Up' really came from, Jay had a busy year, obviously, with The Blueprint 3 and the success of that and the tour," Drake said in an interview. "So we didn't do it in the same room. But me and Jay have a lot of great conversations, man. So it would never just be like, 'I'm gonna send you something, and we're not gonna talk about it, and you send it back. We really talked about it...And Jay's joint on the album is so important on the album, because it's another turning point. Whereas 'Over' is a turning point for me, 'Light Up' ... Jay, really, I think it's one of my favorite Jay verses. Jay not only gave me a great verse, but a life lesson. And I think he's gonna give everybody a life lesson just about this business. It's incredible."
The song leaked online Thursday (May 28) morning.
There are about three weeks left until the official release of Thank Me Later, so it come to no surprise that about half of the album has already leaked through the cracks and found its way onto the Internet to receive praise or scrutiny. Two standouts many can expect and have been highly anticipating come from the duo that created "Empire State Of Mind" with Alicia Keys handling the intro and Jay-Z schooling the Young Money rapper Drake.
Last year, Drake revealed that he would feature Jay on his Thank Me Later debut.
"I actually did the record with Jay-Z last night," Drake revealed in an interview. "It's crazy, I'm really really excited about it. I hope he likes it, I just did it and I'ma shoot it to him and I hope he likes it. But it's crazy. It's actually produced by, well, the one that I want him on, produced by this dude from Toronto -- it is nice. It's a special, special record because at first I was like, 'I don't know what kinda hook I'ma do,' I really wanted to make this rap record and I managed to get this rap with a crazy chorus in the lane of like a 'Forever' but not really. It's like that type of triumphant feel though. I'm excited. The record is called 'Light It Up.'"
Grammy-winning rapper T.I. recently predicted Drake's first-week sales.
"I'm confident in my man," T.I. said about Drake's first-week. "I think if 500 [thousand] was the over, under, I would take the over. Given his potential and his presence, I would. I think that's safe, that's a safe bet. He hasn't put out a dud yet. He hasn't put out a dud, not even as a feature, so I think that warrants about a half [a million]."
Thank Me Later drops Tuesday, June 15th.
