Grammy-winning singer T-Pain has announced plans to donate his iconic top hat collection to charity.
According to Pain, the popular look was only for the promotion of his 2008 album, Thr33 Ringz.
"I have 332 right now," Pain told television host Carson Daly. "Yeah, I had to number them and sign them because I'm getting rid of them, I'm giving them to the Grammy committee and they're selling them on eBay and the money goes to foundations and charities. I will not [get more hats.] I'm giving them up, that was just for the Thr33 Ringz album. That was just for a ring leader look, you know I figured, if I'm gonna be fat with dreads, I might as well wear stupid clothes too. That was probably just part of the ensemble of the album."
Rapper Fabolous poked fun at Pain's hat collection during a short-lived Twitter dispute last fall.
"Jus heard Tpain says F*ck JayZ & F*ck Fabolous too over Twitter... Ok, now me & my twiggas/Street Twitter Ditta Dam must go in on him! Pain previously retired his "Big A** Chain" necklace at a mock funeral in October.
The highlight of the night started with T-Pain pulling up in a pimped out orange and blue hearse bumping Jay-Z's 'Death of Autotune'. He stood around his car and jammed out for a multitude of photographers, video cameras, bloggers and media outlets alike. Then he walked to the back of the hearse and pulled out a coffin and inside was a skeleton dressed in jeans and a white tee, wearing the 'BIG A** CHAIN' and his top hat. After parking his 'car' Pain walked down the red carpet and entered the club.
Pain is currently working on a new studio album.
T-Pain also shed some light on the progress of his latest album "RevolveR," commenting that physical recording wrapped up last Wednesday and that the project was now in its mixing and mastering phase. The album, which T-Pain says should be out some time in April, will feature less in the way of collaboration than some of his previous releases. "I tried to keep it light this time because a lot of people were saying my other albums were only as good as they were because of the features," he says. "So I'm gonna try to run the test on it this time."
