Lil Wayne Returns to Studio After Courthouse Fire Delays Sentencing

Lil Wayne’s freedom has been spared for an extra day thanks to a lil’ fire. A courthouse blaze has postponed the rapper’s sentencing yet again.

Wayne, born Dwayne Carter Jr., was originally scheduled to be sentenced today to one year at Rikers Island for gun possession, but his case has been adjourned until 2:15 p.m. tomorrow due to a basement fire at Manhattan Criminal Court. The accident was caused by an electrical malfunction, which forced the evacuation of 1,000 employees, judges, jurors, and defendants.

Weezy was prepared to start serving his time before he was informed of the news upon arriving in New York this morning from Miami, according to his lawyer Stacey Richman. “Once you make up your mind to do something, you want to do it,” she said.

This is the second time the case has been delayed. It had originally been scheduled for February 9, but was postponed due to dental surgery, where Wayne reportedly underwent eight root canals in one day.

So what will the “Fireman” do with his extra day of freedom? Blaze up more music, of course. “Going to studio. Gotta record 3 songs. Mike Jackson, Shanell, & Justin Bieber,” tweeted his affiliate, DJ Scoob Doo.
