Chamillionaire On Ludacris' "Battle of the Sexes" Sales, "It's Only Right He Comes Out No. 1"
Rapper Chamillionaire has reached out to SOHH to share his reaction to fellow Southern artist Ludacris' Battle of the Sexes album debuting at the top of the sales charts last week.
According to Cham, Luda's success boils down to his longevity within hip-hop.
"What's more impressive to me is the fact of his longevity man, his whole career," Cham told SOHH. "Ludacris man, he's underestimated. A lot of people don't really look at his history and see how much he's done for like, what is this, like his 10th album or something like that? He's been out for a long time and has managed to always stay pretty relevant. I kinda look at Fabolous the same way, he may not be Jay-Z but he always manages to come out with [records like] 'Breathe' and all these songs, and he did the song with Nate Dogg, he's always able to walk that line and stay relevant and that's a very hard thing to do. So it's only right that he comes out number one. It's not even a surprise to me, man, because nowadays there's a lot of artists that's fly by night. Some people may even look at me as fly by night, I haven't had on a major level a career like Ludacris or people like that but it's only what I would hope for. That's what I'm grinding for."
The rapper's new album is expected to once again rank in the Top 10 later this week.
Lady Antebellum will regain the #1 spot on next week's chart with a total in the 90-95k range, marking the first time this year that the #1 album has sold less than 100k. Marvin Sapp (Verity/JLG) 70-75k Ludacris (DTP/Def Jam/IDJ) 55-60k The Edge (Razor & Tie) 50-55k (Note: This will be mostly direct-to-consumer sales that we were unaware of yesterday.) Lady Gaga, The Fame (Interscope) 45-50k Sade (Epic) 35-40k
Battle of the Sexes secured over 137,000 sold albums upon its release earlier this month.
Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris' Battle of the Sexes made its way onto the charts this week opening at No. 1. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the Southern emcee's compilation disc has sold 137,300 records after seven days in stores.
Chamillionaire is currently prepping the forthcoming release of his new album, Venom.
Grammy-winning, platinum Houston artist, Chamillionaire, officially hit the road today, embarking on his "In Love With My Money" tour with former group member, Paul Wall - first stop, Austin, Texas for their headlining gig at SXSW. The timing couldn't be more perfect as the release date for his long-awaited third album, Venom, was officially slated this week for June 22nd on Chamillitary/Universal Republic with a first single, artwork and tracklisting to be forthcoming shortly.
