Ludacris Wanted Lauryn Hill For "Battle Of The Sexes" Album, "It Just Didn't Work Itself Out"

Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris has revealed that he wanted a collaboration with former Fugees songstress Lauryn Hill for his male versus female compilation album, Battle of the Sexes.

Luda said he did reach out to the renowned artist.

Ludacris' latest album features a number of female rappers -- but the Grammy-winner acknowledges there's one lady he really wanted to work with. "I think Lauryn Hill is like extremely talented and I can say I did try to do that, it just didn't work itself out," he says of the multiple Grammy-winning singer-rapper, whose only studio album, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," has sold more than eight million units in the United States since its release in 1998.

Last year, Wyclef Jean publicly asked Hill to consider doing a Fugees reunion.

"Let me play you a classic record," Clef told his crowd of fans at a December 2009 concert. "This group still sold 22 million copies and the reason I'll never go broke, I'm still living on they publishing check. See. So right here, Wyclef passing number one -- and if Lauryn Hill is listening, get the group back together too!"

Although he could not snag the singer, Luda did manage to recruit a string of popular female rappers for the album.

"It's such a male-dominated industry that I feel like females need more of a voice, so we wanted to hear more of what the hell they had to say," Luda said in an interview. "With that being said, I went out and got women from the past, the present and the future -- everyone from Lil Kim, Eve, Trina, Nicki Minaj. I got records where I'm talking about women ... and where women are talking back to me."

Since debuting atop the charts earlier this month, Luda's latest effort has sold more than 100,000 copies.

Grammy-winning rapper Ludacris' Battle of the Sexes lost its number one spot falling two slots down to No. 3 with 61,200. After two weeks in stores, the rapper's compilation project has moved 198,500 copies.
