Big Boi Breaks Down Def Jam Deal, "Jive Gave Me The Opportunity To Take The Album Elsewhere" [Video]

OutKast's Big Boi has opened up about his new recording contract with Def Jam and revealed his thoughts about joining a roster of artists like Rick Ross, Fabolous and Ludacris.

Big Boi also talked about the status of the next OutKast album.

"It was a lot of behind the scenes, label politics," Boi told hip-hop personality Gyant referring to his album delay. "A lot of people don't know, we started at LaFace Records with LA Reid...as of maybe three weeks ago [Jive] gave me the opportunity to take the album elsewhere, I called my big brother LA Reid, he said meet me in Miami the next day. We flew to Miami, played him the music, he said let's do it, deal is done..I'm not even concerned about nothing but me. People might say [Def Jam] doesn't have any hot artists but he got the number one record with Ludacris' last week...my album is a musical nuclear bomb...The OutKast album, I can't really say which label it'll be on because I really don't know which label it's gonna fall. I'm gonna put my solo album out first, Dre is working with his solo album right now..."

Last weekend, Boi informed his Twitter followers of making a move to Def Jam.

"THE INK IS ON THE PAPER!!! "BREAKING NEWS!!!!" It's OFFICIAL! BIG BOI signs SOLO album DEAL with DEF JAM!!! More details to come...," he wrote late Friday (March 19) night.

His new album, Sir Luscious Leftfoot, is scheduled to come out this May.

Old rhyme partner André 3000 cameos on "Lookin 4 Ya"; the ominous, R&B-tinged "Hustle Blood" features Jamie Foxx; and "Shine Blockas," a booming, soulful jam with Gucci Mane, is already an underground hit. The release has been repeatedly delayed as Big Boi negotiates with his record label, but that's given him time to live with the music. "If I can listen to it every day for years," he says, "I know fans will wear it out when they get it."

No further details have been revealed as of now.
