Toni Braxton's Tax Records Leak Online, Singer Owes $396K To Government
R&B singer Toni Braxton has become the latest artist to have their tax records leaked online as reports show her owing more than $396,000 to the government.
According to reports, the singer's husband is also involved in the debt.
R&B singer Toni Braxton is no one-hit wonder when it comes to tax liens. The IRS claims the "Un-Break My Heart" songbird and her husband owe more than $396,000 in delinquent federal taxes, according to a tax lien filed last month. The IRS filed a $396,330 lien against Braxton and husband Keirston Lewis on March 26 with Whitfield County (Ga.) Superior Court. According to the lien, they owe income taxes from 2007 and 2008.
R&B singer Faith Evans also had her tax troubles revealed online this week.
The IRS filed a $36,360 lien against Evans on March 4 with the New York City Register's office. The IRS filed a $119,821 lien against Evans on Feb. 16 with the Los Angeles County Recorder of Deeds. The state of New Jersey filed a $204,000 lien against Evans on Oct. 30, 2008, with the New Jersey State Superior Court.
Earlier this month, Braxton discussed her upcoming album, Pulse.
"We're doing that as we speak - I think we have about seven songs confirmed, but we haven't got the ten yet. The album was supposed to come out in February, but we held it back because seven of the ten songs we picked were leaked. We decided to go back to the studio, record four or five more songs and then pick. Now we send everything via Federal Express - nothing's going through the internet - and that's why none of the new songs have leaked so far."
The singer has over two decades of music to her name.
Toni Braxton was one of the most popular and commercially successful female R&B singers of the '90s, thanks to her ability to straddle seemingly opposite worlds. Braxton was soulful enough for R&B audiences, but smooth enough for adult contemporary; sophisticated enough for adults, but sultry enough for younger listeners; strong enough in the face of heartbreak to appeal to women, but ravishing enough to nab the fellas. Wielding such broad appeal, Braxton managed to score not one, but two albums that sold over eight million copies.

I don't understand these celebrities that make all this money, then get in trouble over tax evasions. They're as dumb as a box of rocks! Haven't they learned anything from previous stars like MC Hammer, Woody Nelson, Red Foxx, all of which have made lots of money and lost it. Toni has been in trouble with the IRS before, you'd think she would have learn from the past. Get your act together and take better care of your finances! Get with Will Smith's people. At least he had the smarts to know that second chances are opportunities to do better, not regress.
