Kevin Rudolf Talks Cash/Young Money Family Ties, "I Might Work With Drake For His Album"

Cash Money Records' Kevin Rudolf recently talked about his ties with Young Money and his relationship with label mates Lil Wayne and Drake.

According to Rudolf, he may land a spot on Drake's upcoming Thank Me Later debut.

"Yeah, Wayne was thrilled about ['Let It Rock' being featured on ESPN]--the thing with Cash Money is that they've never had a record that has been this visible," he explained in an interview. "Weezy was telling me one day, 'I want one of those NBA records Kevin... I want my sh*t on ESPN!.' [laughs] But I haven't spoken to him directly yet, but everyone around him says he's focused and doing well. I know he'll be fine. I might work with Drake for his album, but I've just been so busy wrapping up my project that I haven't gotten a chance to get in the studio with anyone yet. But I definitely plan to get up with everyone... Lil Twist, Chuckee. They're all talented kids."
Rudolf's Cash Money album will compete against Drake's debut in June.

The "Let It Rock" musician has set a June 15 date for his sophomore effort To the Sky, Rap-Up.com has learned. The follow-up to his 2008 debut In the City includes the first single "I Made It (Cash Money Heroes)" featuring Lil Wayne, Birdman, and Jay Sean, and currently sits at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Known for his rocker image, Rudolf recently said he is a fan of various types of music.

Cash Money Records artist Kevin Rudolf had a hit last spring with a track that featured hip hop superstar Lil Wayne, but for Mashup Mondays, he chose to tackle the decidedly rocking tones of Lifehouse's "Halfway Gone," with just his own voice and an acoustic guitar. "I love working on different kinds of music," says Rudolf enlisted Wayne on "Let It Rock" rose to No. 5 on the Hot 100 last May. "I chose [to do] 'Halfway Gone' because Jason Wade is such a great writer, great singer, and great artist."
Last year, Young Money president Mack Maine explained the company's emphasis on finding new talent.

"As far as Cash Money, direction is everywhere," Maine said about the company. "Cash Money, Young Money it's [the same.] No feelings on [Wayne's bid.] We've been prepared. We've been prepared for whatever -- I could go back to the Cash Money question and the Jay Sean, Kevin Rudolf, Drake, Nicki Minaj, the top players in the genre, how could you ask for more? You got the NBA, you got your top players. All-Stars. Football All-Stars. We got legends that's gonna be in the Hall of Fame of music. If it's talent, we don't care where you from. It's not like we were looking for [Jay Sean], somebody turned Slim, Baby on, heard some of his music, saw some of his concerts, called him and was like, 'Why you not in the states yet?' because nobody knew him over there. It's like, we helped him and he helped us 'cause now we branching out way over there and getting some of his crowd."
