Teairra Mari On Working W/ DJ Drama, "He Does The Biggest Mixtapes"
Former Roc-A-Fella Records songstress Teairra Mari recently discussed preparing to work with DJ Drama on a mixtape.
According to Mari, the upcoming project will feature remixes to both R&B and hip-hop records.
"Actually, DJ Drama chose me. He said he was doing an R&B mixtape, he had just done one with Chris Brown," she explained in an interview. "He normally does hip-hop music. He was like, 'I want you to be the first female I use for my R&B mixtape.' So I agreed. DJ Drama does the biggest mixtapes. He charges people to do them. With this mixtape, first I did a remix to [Usher's] "Daddy's Home" and another one to Waka Flocka's [song 'O Let's Do It'], but I was like, I'm just gonna do newer stuff 'cause by the time the mixtape comes out that'll be kinda old. It's going to be remixes of songs that are out or maybe even throwback songs. I might do some old-school R&B songs. There's no title yet. I've been contemplating a few titles in my head. We'll be working on this ASAP, probably in the next three to four weeks."
The singer recently talked about working with Nicki Minaj.
"I got Nicki on the song because I liked her," Mari said in an interview. "I followed her YouTube videos, so I knew what she was about. When I heard 'Automatic,' I thought Nicki Minaj. [The song's producer Rico Love] didn't know who I was talking about. He was like, 'Who?' I showed him her videos on YouTube. At first he wanted to get Trina or Lil' Kim. I love Trina and I love Kim as well, but I thought we should get a fresh girl and Nicki Minaj is hot."
She hit up SOHH last year to discuss re-linking with Kanye West for their "Diamonds" collaboration.
"I have a song on the album with Kanye called 'Diamond' that's really really cute," Teairra told SOHH. "It's one of my favorites actually. It's really girlie and it's just about loving your man like you love your diamonds. You know how us girls how we love our diamonds. [Kanye and I] worked together before on my first single, he did a remix on it. We always see each other we knew each other through Def Jam, that was all still family and love."
Mari is currently working on her upcoming album, At That Point.
On January 12, 2008 Teairra Mari released a Benny Boom directed buzz music video for "Hunt 4 U" which features Pleasure P. The first official single from "At That Point" is "Cause A Scene" featuring Flo Rida. The second official single "Sponsor" featuring Gucci Mane & Soulja Boy Tell 'Em was released digitally on February 2, 2010 and the video was shot at a mansion in Los Angeles and was released on March 8, 2010. Aside from music Teairra Mari shot a movie called "The Magnificant Cooly-T", which will go straight to DVD.
