Nicki Minaj Backs Out Rihanna Tour, "I've Decided To Use That Time For The Completion Of My Album"
Young Money's Nicki Minaj has decided to drop out of the Last Girl on Earth summer tour with Rihanna and Ke$ha in order to complete her debut album.
Writing via Twitter, Nicki made the announcement Wednesday (April 7) afternoon.
" *sighs* how...how do i say this...hope the barbz will understand...hate letting them down. *sighs again while in deep thought*," she wrote. " Barbz I'm sorry 2 say I will not be going out on RiRi's tour. I've decided 2 use that time 4 the completion of my album. Hope u understand. Barbz, Thx 4 understanding. And Thanks to Rihanna 4 being a sweetheart and extending this great opportunity 2 me. Support the show! Luv, HB"
The nationwide tour was scheduled to begin in early July and run through late summer.
The tour will begin in Seattle on July 2 and make 25 stops, including Los Angeles on July 21 and New York's Madison Square Garden on August 12, before concluding on August 25 in Chicago. Tickets go on sale at LiveNation.com on Friday. Additional dates will be announced.
Last month, Minaj hinted at the possibility of having Kanye West and Swizz Beatz produce her Young Money debut.
"I'm probably definitely going to work with Kanye," she revealed in an interview. "On my debut, I worked with Sean Garrett. And probably Swizz Beatz, he's gonna send me something. I like to work with unknown producers as well, so I accept beats from everybody."
In December, she said there was an intention to drop a "classic" debut.
"The [album], that's what I'm actually getting ready to work on because I've been on the road for such a long time, I'm taking a complete hiatus for the next couple months, unfortunately, for all the promoters giving crazy offers," Minaj told DJ Whoo Kid. "And I've been turning every one because I have to put my foot down for the next few months and deliver a classic album and I already have stuff and I can't wait for the world to hear. All the stuff we talk about is fun and games and all that but the music is what's most important and I don't want all the people to be distracted by the other stuff and so I'm gonna take a break and when I come back you guys will have some very, very great music."
