Diddy Shuts Down "American Idol" W/ Dirty Money Set, "It's My First Show Back" [Video]
Rap mogul Diddy and his Dirty Money crew made their "American Idol" debut last night with and performed their new single, "Hello, Good Morning."
Diddy's performance aired last night prior to the contestant-driven show's weekly results.
As a sort of inverse to Usher's performance earlier in the show, Diddy arrived on a staircase dressed in all white, at first bathed in a heavenly light from above while live violins and timpani kicked off the rocking new single from the upcoming album Last Train to Paris. Diddy was then met on a smoky stage by his Dirty Money mates Dawn Richard and Kalenna, who impressively kept up with their energetic frontman. Halfway through the song, the light show was introduced with an address to those watching at home.
Diddy celebrated his musical return with a handful of tweets.
"Thank you to all the diddy-dirty money fans wishing us well!!!! Thank you. We perform after usher and will iam!!! At 940 east time! GONE!," he wrote last night (March 31). "Man yall don't how much yall support means to me!!!! Its my 1st show back. And I had so many well wished. Thank you. Let's go! Although he did not perform, T.I. is also featured on the rapper's new song.
Sean "Diddy" Combs and Dirty Money's Last Train to Paris has been slow to leave the station. But with a release date of June 22, the man with the billboard in Times Square continues to live the American Dream, performing "Hello, Good Morning" on FOX's American Idol Wednesday next week. Featuring T.I. and his Dirty Money damsels, the uptempo cut will also receive major spins throughout the NCAA Tournament.
Usher also made an appearance on "American Idol" this season.
The performance will follow Tuesday's soul and R&B theme, during which Usher will be responsible for mentoring the contestants. Never one to sing and split, will Diddy take the live performance opportunity to pitch himself as the new Simon Cowell? Does the hip-hop impresario belong on the "Idol" stage? What do you think?
