Nelly Drops Hints On "Tip Drill" Movie, "Everybody's Not Gonna Love It" [Video]

St. Lunatics' Nelly has hinted at plans to perpetuate his controversial adult-themed 2003 "Tip Drill" music video into a full-length, theatrical release in the near future.

While opting not to divulge specifcs, Nelly said he has been contemplating putting the project into motion.

"We talked about doing Tip Drill: The Movie," Nelly revealed in an interview with DJ Vlad. "Who knows. Tip Drill: The Movie. [laughs] We got something, we got something...It's just something along those lines of trying to come up with something that's a little bit creative and like I said again, everybody's not gonna love it. It goes hand in hand, man. You can't tell me I'm like 'this,' when you don't even know me."

Recently, Nelly defended his adult-targeted music video.

"I'm not bound by anything in terms of my freedom to create, who says everything you create has to be accepted by everyone? If I only did one thing, one way then I wouldn't be an artist. Everything in the history of art and music wasn't accepted at first. Not to say what I did wasn't risqué, but it was needed at the time. All I did was entertain adult fans. It even came on an adult show at 3 a.m. It wasn't like the girls in the video were offended by it. Never will I take any of that back. I didn't make 10 of them. I made one video and people wanted to condemn me for it. And people wanted that video to outweigh all the other good things I've done. All my not-for-profit work, helping find marrow donors, community programs and take all that away from me. I was just young and having fun."

The video landed Nelly in front of a firing squad in 2005 after a college cancelled his appearance due to the buzz surrounding "Tip Drill."

The music video for "Tip Drill" became a source of controversy due to perceptions of misogynistic depictions of women. The controversy forced Nelly to cancel an appearance at a bone marrow drive at Spelman College, a historically black college in Atlanta, Georgia. Similar claims of misogyny also surrounded Nelly's single "Pimp Juice". RIAA have certified the album Platinum.

Following the controversy, Nelly defended his racy visual.

"I respect women, and I'm not a misogynist. I'm an artist. Hip-hop videos are art and entertainment. Videos tell stories; some are violent, some are sexy, some are fun, some are serious. As for how women are shown in the videos, I don't have a problem with it because it is entertainment...No one knows what a particular woman's situation is, what her goals are. Being in that video may help her further those goals. Several women who have been in my videos have gone on to do TV appearances and movies. No one can dictate other people's choices and situations."

Nelly Responds To Ex-St. Lunatic's Claims Of Being Shortchanged, "You Don't Write Or Rap!"

Grammy-winning rapper Nelly has responded to ex-St. Lunatic Slo' Down after the former associate publicly blasted him for allegedly not being paid fairly while a part of the crew.

Writing on Twitter, Nelly pointed to Slo''s limited contribution to the St. Lunatics.

"I wish I could have made ova a half a mill dollars for just wearing a mask on stage!!!!!loldammm," he wrote earlier this week.

"hate ungratefulness pimp!u don't write!don't rap!!u don't even stay in the studio till the song is done!still make a halfmil"

Slo' claimed Nelly received half of all St. Lunatics' profits and did not look out for him.

"I might f*ck around and get emotional talkin' about all how that money was getting' split up, sh*t was crazy," he said. "N*ggas was eatin' and I wasn't one of them n*ggas. I was snackin'... I was lunchin', havin' lunch every now and then, and n*ggas was havin' four course meals and ain't have sh*t to do with sh*t...Whatever we did Nelly got half of that sh*t, and the rest of the group split that up...And when it came to splitting the money I wasn't part of the rest of the group...I ain't write no lyrics or nuthin but...I brought more to the stage show, [and] to the image."

Slo' reportedly linked with St. Lunatics in the mid-1990's.

Having been friends and family for years the group formed collectively in 1993. The roster, which has been consistent since the group's inception, consists of Ali, Nelly, City Spud, Kyjuan and Murphy Lee. The group dubbed itself the St. Lunatics and began crafting the unique sound that would place St. Louis on hip-hop's world map. By 1996 the crew was ready to debut its new sound. The group picked up hypeman Slo' Down to add a visual element to the act, and hit the studio to record the single "Gimme What Ya Got."

The group gained fame around the time their debut album dropped in 2001.

The group was formed in 2000 and came out with their hit, "Gimmie What U Got" and "Thug Luv for the Homiez", in 2003. After the St. Lunatics got signed to Universal Records Nelly was the first member to go solo, and while Nelly was working on his solo album Country Grammar, City Spud was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbery. After Nelly's breakthrough success in 2000, the St. Lunatics released their debut album Free City in 2001 with hits such as "Summer in the City" and "Midwest Swing". Ali released his solo album Heavy Starch in 2002 and Murphy Lee released his solo album Murphy's Law in 2003.

Nelly Recruits T.I., Diddy, Kelly Rowland, & Akon for ‘Nelly 5.0’ Album

If you’ve missed Nelly, don’t worry because you’re about to get a double dose of the rapper, who’s planning to release two albums this year—one with his group the St. Lunatics (City Free, July 27) and a new solo album called Nelly 5.0. The follow-up to 2008’s Brass Knuckles is shaping up to be another star-studded fest with appearances from T.I., Diddy, Akon, Kelly Rowland, and more. Rap-Up.com caught up with the Midwest MC in the Big Apple for an exclusive update on the project.

Who are you working with?
I got some talented producers like Dr. Luke and Polow Da Don. I got my man Rico Love. I got Smash Factory, which is T.I.’s production company. Me and Tip did a joint that was crazy. I got Don Vito again featured on the album. I got Murphy Lee, Puff’s on the album. My little brother City [Spud] is on the album.

What’s the first single and when is it dropping?
We’re actually about to release the first single in a week or two. It’s called “Tippin’ in the Club.”

Why did you call the album Nelly 5.0?
It’s a lot of things. It’s also my fifth drop date. It’s just the energy of it all. [The Mustang] 5.0 was always one of my dream cars. As soon as I had enough money to buy one of these mothafuckers, they stopped making these shits. It was just like, “Ahhh!” You know in Menace II Society when he jacked that ride? And then they came back… That was like the ultimate scene. I always wanted one of them mothafuckers, money green. But when I got a chance, they stopped making them. I had this meeting with Ford where they asked me these random questions about cars and I just got to talking it up. I was like, “Why ya’ll ain’t brought back the 5.0 Mustang? That shit was hot!”

So they listened to you?
It’s back. They was like boom! I always send a shout-out to Ford because here you are, you’re talking about an icon in the motor industry, like the Donald Trump of this shit when it comes to that, and here they are listening to Nelly. They took a chance on that shit, so I think it’s incredible.

Nelly Recruits Usher, Jamie Foxx & More For "5.O" Album

Grammy-winning rapper Nelly has reportedly recruited Usher, Jamie Foxx, Dr. Luke and more for his upcoming new album, 5.O.

According to reports, Nelly may also be featuring Janet Jackson and Diddy on his solo effort.

This time around, he's tapped high-profile producer Jim Jonsin to work alongside him in the studio. As the Press Association reports, Usher, Jamie Foxx and producer Dr. Luke have also signed on to collaborate on the new album, which will be titled '5.O' -- presumably because of the 2011 Mustang 5.0-liter V8 car that Nelly says will be featured on the album's cover. Other names rumored to appear on '5.O' include Janet Jackson, Diddy, Akon and, of course, the St. Lunatics.

Earlier this year, Nelly talked about reuniting with Kelly Rowland for the project.

"'DL2!' This is one thing, we know we can't in no way shape of form can we outdo part one," Nelly said about "Dilemma Part II." "There's no way. You're in a lose situation if you go in trying to do that. What the new song is doing is a continuation of the story. It's produced by my man Jim Jonsin and my man Rico Love. We were in the studio in Miami and I called K and she was in the bed and just shot down to the studio. I got a collaboration with Taraji Henson that was produced by Jermaine Dupri. It's crazy."

Producer Jim Jonsin recently spoke on working with Nelly.

"We've done a few songs so far," Jonsin said in an interview. "Nelly's great, he's really super talented. I just know he looks pretty anxious about dropping [it] within the next couple of months for sure. I did 'Dilemma (Part 2)' with [songwriter] Rico Love and Nelly had this melody idea. I've worked with Kelly Rowland and I've heard her sound, and that kind of triggered me to call and put her in the studio. It came out really amazing. It's similar in that it's musical and it has a great melody. But the sound is a little different, a little newer."

Last year, Nelly said he planned to work with rappers like Young Jeezy and Plies.

"The thing is, I work best with two strikes, two outs," Nelly revealed in an interview. "I really think I do. As an artist, you want to wake up every day and feel like you're doing something people don't think you can do. Now I feel like I've been put in that position again, where it's more doubt than expectancy. The doubt is what fuels me, so to speak. I've been real fortunate where I have great people around me. Everybody wants to freakin' work with me -- not that everybody didn't [before], but it's different because I didn't work with a lot of people. Coming into this situation, it's beautiful...In the booth right now, it's kind of different. I got Sean Paul, Akon...as far as the rappers go, Plies. Me and [Young] Jeezy talking about some things now. I'm not finished, but I'm a good portion on the way."

A confirmed release date has not yet been revealed.
