Sean Garrett Believes Cash Money Is The Future, "It Represents Where Music Is Going"
Producer Sean Garrett recently discussed his relationship with Young Money and how his close ties with Lil Wayne have inspired an upcoming deal with Cash Money Records.
Garrett claims that he has a special bond with Wayne and said Cash Money represented the future of hip-hop.
"I really got a lot of respect for Wayne," Sean said in an interview. "Wayne embraced me with open arms before he went on a little vacation. He took me on tour with him. He was really open arms about rocking with him. He put me on the pilot seat going on right before him. I got a lot of respect for [Cash Money], because it represents where music is going as far as really believing in yourself and not just being in a box. Just creating your own style, your own movement and believing in your team. Cash Money is really family-orientated. I can bring a lot to Cash Money, in reference to what I do, developing their other artists, helping them to travel across the water. They've got artists they are trying to break internationally. It's sort of a win/win situation."
Last month, Garrett talked with SOHH about closing in on a record deal with Young Money/Cash Money.
"It's very, very, very close man," Sean told SOHH about inking a deal with Cash Money/Young Money. "You gotta understand, I already got money, Cash Money has much, much, much money.Young Money also has much, much money. Oh and 'Free Weezy,' you know what I'm saying? It's just, we had to make sure that, well, there's a lot that's coming together there. And I really have a lot of respect and honor the way that system was built so we just had to make sure that everything was a go but from all aspects and you know, I'm excited. It's gonna be tremendous but the ink is almost dry. [laughs]"
The producer has already penned hits for Young Money's Nick Minaj.
The hitmaker, nicknamed "The Pen," has enlisted Young Money's First Lady Nicki Minaj for his new single "Get It All" from his forthcoming U.S. debut album. When asked whether he'll be taking his relationship with Lil Wayne's label one step further, he replied, "It's in the sky. You just look up and watch the stars line up."
In addition to artists like Bow Wow who have inked deals with Cash Money, former Roc-A-Fella artist Freeway previously said he had a deal on the table.
"Yeah, we're working on a situation with [Cash Money Records] right now," Free promised in an interview. "I feel as though no matter where I'm at, I'm gonna do my thing regardless. I'm gonna make the type of music that I make, which might be a little different from what they make, but it's still along the same lines. And I'm bringing some hot emcees to the table too with me, so I feel like we're gonna have a strong movement no matter where we at. I feel like we're gonna make a strong impact on the hip-hop game."
