Nicki Minaj Goes Futuristic With Swizz Beatz, "We Got Some Sh*t" [Video]
Young Money's Nicki Minaj has recruited Swizz Beatz for her upcoming debut album and said their chemistry has created some new, futuristic records.
Minaj said that one track off the album is called "Catch Me."
"He definitely expressed interest in an interview one time," Nicki told radio host Jenny Boom Boom. "I was excited because I was like, 'Swizz Beatz, I love his style.' And as a matter of fact, we got some sh*t...It's one song called 'Catch Me' that will definitely make the album and it's a masterpiece from me and Swizz. It's a little singing, a little rapping, but it's like a different vibe. It's a moody vibe. It's just dope. And the beat sounds really futuristic, but it's mellow futuristic. It puts you in this weird...like you're high type sh*t, even though I don't get high and I never have."
Last April, Beatz said he wanted to contribute to Minaj's first solo record.
"[Working on] Drake's new album, a lot of people, everybody. As far as Nicki Minaj, she's definitely on the list for me to give something crazy to. Whenever she's ready, I mean, the whole Cash Money is family, the whole Young Money is family. I've known Lil Wayne since he was like really little Wayne. We was on tours together. Me and Baby, we are super cool. Whatever they need from me."
In March, Minaj hinted at the possibility of having Kanye West and Swizz Beatz produce on her Young Money debut.
"I'm probably definitely going to work with Kanye," she revealed in an interview. "On my debut, I worked with Sean Garrett. And probably Swizz Beatz, he's gonna send me something. I like to work with unknown producers as well, so I accept beats from everybody."
Earlier this year, the rapper talked about not rushing out the debut.
"I've gotten great feedback from artists I look up to and never thought I'd work with," she explained in an interview. "They're already in line to be on the project. But it's like, 'Do I want to put out a debut album with a thousand features on it or do I wanna finally showcase Nicki?' I'm not worried about features at all...With the album, I think it's more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again. Before I drop an album, people need to come out and see. People don't even know what a female rapper does. We're so not used to seeing it. It's nonexistent in categories. We don't get nominated. I need to work [the people] up to accepting a female rapper again and accepting my style and all of that -- then the album will come. Honestly, I'd love to put an album out this year, but I don't believe in rushing things either."
Nicki Minaj's untitled debut album is scheduled to come out in the fall.
