Khia Plans Rap Departure, "I'm King Of Bored With Hip-Hop"
Southern rapper Khia recently shared her views on the state of hip-hop and said she is looking to move beyond rap and venture into singing.
The rapper feels hip-hop has lost its essence and is merely about looks.
"I'm kind of bored with hip-hop. I've done everything that I really wanted to do. I'm not really getting into the hip-hop stuff because it's more about the drama than it is about the talent," she tells VIBE about going in a new direction musically. "It's more about the look and the images and all of that instead of about the art and I'm not really into that. I'm trying to do something bigger and better."
In particular, Khia recently called out fellow female emcee Nicki Minaj's "Barbie" look.
"I don't know if it's really her. Everybody knows it's me, it's Khia. I don't know if she's Nick, I don't know if she's a Barbie. I tell everybody, we don't have Barbies in the hood. Boos, there wasn't no Barbies sitting on the stoop, love who you are. Hip-Hop is supposed to be real, hip-hop is supposed to be where the real people hang and I think it's a lot of infiltrators coming in..."
The rapper is currently preparing the release of her new album, Khia Shamone/Motor Mouf.
"The new album is half hip-hop and half R&B, with live instrumentation. The Motor Mouf side is kind of a follow up to Nasti Muzik, Thug Misses, Gangstress, Boss Lady?really, what the fans are used to," she says. "I'm also known as Khia Shamone, a lover of music, so I'm introducing them to me as a songstress, I'm singing. I wrote and composed the songs and the band is playing the music live."
Khia's last album, Nasti Muzik, featured a guest appearance from Gucci Mane.
Nasti Muzik is the third studio album fromAmerican rap artist Khia. The album was released on July 22, 2008 in the United States on Thug Misses Entertainment/Big Cat Records. One of the feature producers on the album is DJ Craze, with Gucci Mane and Maceo being the featured guest artists on the album.
