Grammy-winning rapper T.I. has denied snitching to avoid a lighter jail sentence for his 2009 felony gun possession conviction.
T.I. said his community contributions helped earn him an opportunity to a plea deal.
"What people don't take into consideration is the reason that I was eligible for certain agreements that they weren't eligible for was because I made myself a useful member of society. Most muthaf*ckas catch cases and get time. My n*gga, you wasn't doing sh*t when you was out here, so wasn't no reason for them to keep you out here. Please understand the G code that I learned from, if you speak out your mouth that a muthaf*cka is telling on somebody and you can't come with indisputable, irrefutable facts to support that statement, that makes you the sucker," T.I. said. "You are now in violation of the G code. And there ain't nobody, nowhere in naan jail sayin' I was on they paperwork."
On G-Unit's 2008 Terminate On Site album, 50 Cent is assumed to be speaking on T.I.'s felony gun case and plea deal on the track "You So Tough."
"Nowadays this rap sh*t ain't adding up/ How n*ggas get caught with 10 machine guns, only get 12 months?/Oo-weee, don't talk to me/ If you talking to him, you talking to them.../I got the best lawyers that money can buy/ they say at best they woulda got me 10 or maybe 9./I said, how do you explain how the homie breezed?/They said, you keep your mouth shut or you eat the cheese."
Grand Hustle's Young Dro recently defended T.I. and said his boss would never snitch.
"That's like my brother, I've known shawty for half my life," Dro said. "50 [Cent] mean, but Tip ain't never done nothing like that. As far as snitching though, my partner ain't nothing nowhere near that bullsh*t and n*ggas know what's up with our team. Everybody got their little sh*t to say about that but we know for a fact it ain't nothing [where] we gotta go around like 'He didn't do that, hey, you know he didn't do that,' it's evident you know what I'm saying? Shawty locked up in the jail right now -- he's ready to come home. He's ready to knock down the walls of Hollywood, make sure y'all know the movie Takers is on the way, you gotta know the boy on the way back home, you gotta know as far as all these false accusations -- on this side of Grand Hustle, we getting rich. We making the sh*t known, this sh*t goes further..."
The rapper's one-year jail bid stemmed from him being arrested on felony gun possession charges in 2007.
T.I. was sentenced in March 2009 on felony weapons charges arising from a 2007 arrest, when he was apprehended just before a scheduled appearance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. The Atlanta rapper pleaded guilty in March 2008 and struck a plea deal: a sentence of a year and a day would be contingent upon the star paying a $100,000 fine and completing 1,500 hours of community service; 1,000 hours to be finished before entering prison and 500 after his release. Also, post-prison, T.I. agreed to submit to drug counseling, a curfew, random property searches, DNA testing and a yearlong home confinement, among other conditions of the deal.
