Kanye West Reemerges at High School Show
After an extended absence from the spotlight, Kanye West returned to the stage for his first live performance this year. But it wasn’t in the stadium size venues he’s accustomed to. Instead, Mr. West performed at a high school gymnasium in his hometown of Chicago for over 1,600 students as part of the Kanye West Foundation’s 3rd annual “Stay in School” event.
Mr. West took time out on his 33rd birthday to honor Chicago high school students who improved their grades, behavior, and attendance, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Wearing his signature black shades, ‘Ye performed four songs including “Run This Town,” “Good Life,” “Touch the Sky,” and his new single “Power.” He was also joined by fellow Chicago MCs Common and Lupe Fiasco, who opened with “Superstar.”
The usually talkative rapper didn’t speak much onstage, letting Common address the crowd. “We want to congratulate you on the incredible job you’ve done in school,” said Common. “Whatever you do, be the best at it.”
