Fat Joe On Rap's Biggest Misconceptions, "Odds Of Becoming Successful Are 1 In 10 Million"

Terror Squad rapper Fat Joe recently talked about the biggest misconceptions people have about the rap game and explained why success is harder to achieve than it looks.

Joe discussed the struggles he goes through as a rap artist.

"I would tell [my daughter] the business is rough and not as easy as you think," Joe said in an interview. "The biggest misconception kids have is that you wake up every morning drinking [champagne] with three girls in your bed and that you drive Phantom drops all day. They don't realize the odds of you becoming a successful artist are like one in every 10 million. They don't understand the struggle of what we go through. I don't even have time [for other things]...This is my job, and everybody wants to be a rapper because they think it's the easiest thing to be. They think, 'I don't have to hammer nails, lift concrete or drive a bus' but they don't realize it's a grind and struggle to be successful in this game."

The rapper's financial records leaked online earlier this month and showed him owing over $139,000 to the government.

When rapper Fat Joe listed his $2 million Florida mansion for sale recently, the 39-year-old denied speculation the sale was spurred by financial woes. Yet he does have money problems, according to public records that reveal a recent $71,611default judgment in a lawsuit filed by his bank and more than $139,000 in delinquent state and federal taxes since 2008. The state of New Jersey filed a $2,200 tax lien against Fat Joe and his Terror Squad Productions Inc. on March 18 in New Jersey State Superior Court. The IRS filed a $31,987 tax lien against Fat Joe on Feb. 2 with the Mercer County (N.J.) Clerk. The state of New Jersey filed a $105,000 tax lien against Fat Joe and Terror Squad on Aug. 14, 2008, in New Jersey State Superior Court.

His latest album also suffered low sales with its first-week in stores last fall.

Terror Squad leader Fat Joe's Jealous Ones Still Envy Part II got off to a rocky start landing at No. 73 this week. With seven days to his name, Joey Crack's latest effort has sold 8,300 copies.

However, Joe is currently working on a new project which he claims is a rap classic.

"I feel like [The Darkside Volume 1] is a hip-hop classic. From Premier to Just Blaze, to Cool & Dre, to Street Runner, Infamous, Scoop Deville, Scram Jones...What I wanna know is, who does ten albums, and on the tenth album, it's better than all the other ones. I don't use the word classic lightly. I never had a classic. Try that one out. Its going down my n*ggas, its going down!"

The Darkside Volume 1 is scheduled to drop July 2010.
