Eminem Rep Addresses "Recovery" Leak, Speculation On New Release Date
After Eminem's Recovery album leaked across the Internet this week, a representative for the rapper has come forward to acknowledge its illegal leak.
According to Em's publicist, the project will still come out later this month.
Recovery, Eminem's highly anticipated new album, leaked onto the 'net on Monday night (June 7), close to two weeks before it's official release date. But according to his publicist, Dennis Dennehey, the disc will not be pushed up. Dennehey confirmed with XXLMag.com that Shady's sixth studio LP, is still set to hit stores on June 22, as planned. Shady's longtime partner in rhyme, Royce da 5'9", took to his Twitter account to comment on the event. "Eminem's album leaked today... MC's how do you feel about what you do," he asked.
Em's track began to circulate online earlier this week, just days after Drake's Thank Me Later leaked.
It doesn't matter if you're a new kid on the block like Drake or a veteran like Eminem, chances are your new album is bound to leak early at some point. Marshall Mathers is the latest to fall to the leak plague, as his upcoming Recovery hit the Internet on Monday, two weeks before its June 22 official release date, and spread like wildfire. Fan forums immediately blew up with quick-take reviews on the rapper's second album in as many years, raving about the many different sounds Slim Shady tries on over the course of the disc. The opening track, "Cold Wind Blows," finds Em taking aim at some of his favorite targets, viciously daring haters to take him on while dropping references to Elton John, Michael Vick, Aquaman, Michael J. Fox and Mariah Carey before dipping into a sing-songy chorus, "I'm as cold as the cold wind ... blows, bla bla bla blows."
This week also saw the early release of Recovery singles like the Rihanna-assisted "Love The Way You Lie."
Rihanna may not have a verse on the laidback Hip Hop cut, but she does a really nice job with the chorus. As usual Rihanna makes this track, just like all her other features. In an eery twist, the entire song is about continuously going back to an abusive relationship. As a result, it fits that Rihanna would want to feature on a song like this. It touches so close to home, which would explain why her words and vocals have a feeling of authenticity.
Another track called "Talkin' 2 Myself" hit the Internet this week and featured Em opening up about his past contemplation with dissing Lil Wayne and Kanye West.
"Hatred was flowing through my veins, on the verge of going insane, I almost made a song dissing Lil Wayne. It's like I was jealous of him because of the attention he was getting, I felt horrible about myself. He was spittin' and I wasn't. Anyone who was buzzin back then could of got it, almost went at Kanye too. God it feels like I'm going psychotic. Thank god that I didn't do it, I would of had my a** handed to me. And I knew it, but Proof isn't here to see me through it...."
Recovery will be released Tuesday, June 22nd.
