Kid Cudi Reportedly Detained At Gunpoint By Police, "I Was In Handcuffs"
Kid Cudi was reportedly detained by police while traveling in California yesterday (December 21) and was accused of taking part in a burglary.
According to reports, the event took place in Los Angeles.
Two police cars cordoned off the road while a further three pulled up next to Cudi's vehicles. Passengers in the cars were then ordered out with their hands on their heads, before being made to kneel on the ground where they were handcuffed. It was only then that Los Angeles Police Department officers realised it was a case of mistaken identity. After the passengers had been released, the officer in charge explained that a resident in the vicinity of the shop had mistakenly identified the party as being involved in a burglary, before allowing Cudi's entourage to go on its way.
Cudi also confirmed being detained by police.
"Who knows, really, the story changed a bunch," he said in an interview. "I'm just happy to be back. I'm a free man! For that moment I was not free. I was in handcuffs. It did not feel very comfortable. We're in LA, it's a rowdy place in the United States, you know? And a lot of sh*t goes down. And these cops have to use force. So it's, like, I understand that they were doing their job. I just wish we weren't in that place at that time."
Prior to the incident, Cudi parted ways with his opening slot on Lady Gaga's Monster's Ball Tour.
Sources at Interscope Records confirm the rapper is "no longer" with the tour -- but wouldn't say if the decision had anything to do with YouTube footage showing Cudi punching fans in the front row of a concert in Vancouver this past weekend. We're told Cudi will be replaced on the Gaga tour by Jason Derulo --the guy who sings "Whatcha Say."
Following the reports, Cudi released a statement explaining his exit from the tour.
"Kid Cudi has decided to take an early leave of absence from Lady Gaga's Monster Ball tour, in order to balance his schedule surrounding the recording of his next album and acting commitments," the statement reads. "Cudi does not want to disappoint his fans and will move forward with his individual show dates in December and throughout the month of January."
No further details have been revealed as of now.
